kellie, i agree -- there's something about the time limit that makes you appreciate it more, and makes it more bearable. i did something similar last weekend (unplanned, but 18 hours of quiet) -- it was so strange to hear the sound of my voice the next day -- i realized i probably don't need to talk so much!

Love your tips on gradually moving away from so much technology. I find that when I get the text message from AT&T saying that I've almost reached my monthly limit on data downloads that I need to cool it on my iphone.
I did try an entire 24hour period of complete silence-no human interaction whatsoever. No TV, no music, no reading, no kids or husband. I think I enjoyed it most because I knew it was only 24 hours. I wrote a lot and took a few nature walks. By the end of my haitus the trees were talking to me...that's when I knew it was time to connect with society again.
I refer back to that single day often when my to-do list and inbox are overflowing. It reminds me that its okay to take a little vacation from all the "Have-Tos". All that stuff will be waiting for me when I return.

At work, I am confined to my office and more specifically to my desk. But at home I wander from room to room, picking up, doing laundry, mail, paperwork, etc. which makes it difficult to stay on-task.

I'm taking part in a challenge to get up earlier in 5 - 15 minute increments. As we add time in the mornings, we add meaningful activities like reading/studying the Bible, quiet time with God, worship, exercise and planning.

My coffee pot is on a timer. I wake up every morning to the smell of fresh coffee. It turns me into a cartoon character, floating along, following the delicious aroma all the way into the kitchen. There's nothing like a special treat to lure me out of my nice warm bed.

I lay out my study materials and workout clothes the night before, so there's no time or energy wasted looking for them. Then onto the treadmill and Bible study!

Totally sensible! Live trees get more and more expensive every year, while artificial ones cost less and less... especially when you hit the after-Christmas sales! Granted, you have to get over the guilt of not contributing to the small business economy (tree growers, small shippers, tree lot owners). But when you pack it all up and only have to vacuum once to restore order, and you don't have to stress out about needles lurking in hidden corners for months and months, and you have an extra $100 to spend on family or extras, the small business economy pales in comparison. Plus, you can always spend that money locally at a homecrafters fair or hot chocolate shack.
